Avanos Bridge and Urban Square Design Competition (2013)

The project called for design proposals for both a new vehicular and pedestrian bridge in Avanos, along with the creation of a new urban square for the historic district. The concept emerged from the contrasting urban morphology on either side of the river. One side features historical qualities and a complex urban texture that has evolved over time. On the other side, there is a rigid gridiron plan with limited room for variation.
The proposal suggests bridging these two contrasting urban environments by introducing a series of floating platforms on the surface of the river, thereby creating a new urban square.
